Exploring an Unusual Steam Demo: Guiding a Piece of Feces in a Mission to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have encountered a variety of interesting indie games. However, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game lets you play a hero that is truly a turd trying to navigate to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
Player controls is easy to grasp: press a jump control. In 150 challenges, you'll face mini-bosses and unlock a shop to buy customizations for your poop character.
Execute your movements with caution, as a mistake means restarting the level. Leap on air pockets to launch yourself higher, cross fragile surfaces, and interact with switches to reveal new areas. Collect UN-KOINS and use them on tougher stages as things gets crazy.
Visually, the demo boasts vibrant level designs and an amazing music score. The retro art featuring moving basic polygons could recall gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
Although tough to think of previous releases where you are a piece of feces, interactive entertainment often incorporated scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players make throwables from protagonist droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. And of course, this theme shows up extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already earned significant recognition, such as winning at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is accessible at present on Steam, with the full game set to launch on computers in the fall.
